ECONOMICS
COURSE DESCRIPTION: Code SSN4010T: (Fall/Spring) Grade Levels: 10-12 Timeframe: 18 weeks - This 1/2 credit course provides a broad view of the social science of economics. It builds on real-world economic applications to create a basic understanding of economic concepts and our economic system. It includes a range of both macro and microeconomic concepts with an emphasis on the American Free Enterprise System. This course relates economic principles through real-world situations students are familiar with.
Students will be introduced to the basics of economic principles, and they will learn the importance of understanding different economic systems. They will also investigate how to think like an economist. Students will explore different economic systems, including the American Free Enterprise System, and they will analyze and interpret data to understand the laws of supply and demand. Students will also be presented with economic applications in today’s world. From economics in the world of business, money, banking, and finance, students will see how economics is applied both domestically and globally. Students will also study how the government is involved in establishing economic stability in the American Free Enterprise System as well as the how the U.S. economy has a global impact.

Homework Policy:
Homework will be assigned at the instructor’s discretion as appropriate for specific course requirements.
Late Work Policy:
With a focus on students being self-directed learners, students are encouraged to be responsible for their own learning. All assigned work must be received by the teacher in accordance with due dates posted or as required on a weekly basis. Late work may not receive full credit. The final deadline for all late work will be set by the individual teacher.
Communication:
Students will be expected to interact with the teacher and classmates in a variety of ways to support instruction. Teacher-student communications are conducted in a variety of ways, via the following technologies based upon need and availability: phone, email, instant message (IM), and web-conferencing.

Academic dishonesty—including plagiarism, cheating or copying the work of another, using technology for illicit purposes, or any unauthorized communication between students for the purpose of gaining advantage during an examination—is strictly prohibited.

BLACK HISTORY MONTH RECOGNITION
Daily & Test Grades: Students will conduct online research on a significant BLACK ECONOMIST.
Students will create both a VISUAL & a formal ESSAY on the person of their choice. The project items will be submitted to the Osan Air Base sponsors as part of the base Black History Month recognition activities. More details are forthcoming.
